About Chambal Archives Nyas

Preserving India's endangered literary, numismatic, and cultural inheritance for future generations.

THE ORIGINS (1960)

A Single-Handed Pursuit of Historical Conservation

Founded by Mr. Krishna Porwal in 1960, Chambal Archives Nyas emerged from a profound recognition that vast quantities of primary historical records—rare books, palm-leaf manuscripts, Mughal coins, and historical photographs—were being lost to moisture, neglect, or commercial destruction.

Over the course of more than six decades, Mr. Krishna Porwal conducted relentless field collection across villages, princely states, old academic libraries, and family estates. Today, the trust houses over 100,000 rare books, hundreds of ancient manuscripts, 2,500 coins, and extinct cultural relics.
